Editor's Note: Maps and tactical images were created by the author, Dale Mattheis, as line drawings while writing the series. Later, the drawings were digitized and modified in PhotoShop. No attempt was made to change the original drawings other than to add color and a few strokes here and there to assist clarity. He does not claim to be an illustrator. 

Cover:  The book cover illustration for Exile to the Stars, a true work of art that still amazes me, was created by Bleu Turrell (azulart@aol.com)  and accurately depicts a scene in Exile to the Stars. The cover for Songs of Deep Green was created by the author. While of much less artistic quality than Mr. Turrell's work, it has a real vitality and, again, accurately depicts a scene.
